SBGY007G
This 38.5mm timepiece from the Grand Seiko Elegance Collection boasts a dial inspired by the natural "Omiwatari" phenomenon which can be seen in the winter on the surface of Lake Suwa in Japan, birthplace of the Spring Drive movement.
Delicate ice ridges referred to as “Omiwatari” are formed when temperatures fluctuate and frozen lakes expand and contract. Believed to be “God’s Footsteps,” locals conduct religious rituals to forecast harvests and luck in the upcoming year based on the ridges' direction and extent.
Grand Seiko designs are inspired by the Japanese idea of ‘The Nature of Time’, which holds that each passing moment is an individual expression reflecting light and darkness. This pride in their environment is demonstrated through the meticulous engineering of the watch movements with a smooth time flow, as well as the natural beauty of the Japanese-crafted dials.
This Grand Seiko edition is powered by the 9R31 Spring Drive caliber, made in the Shinshu Watch studio. A dual spring barrel ensures a 72 hour power reserve, indicated by a power reserve indicator on the rear of the watch. Spring Drive, a revolutionary technology pioneered by the craftsmen of Seiko Watch Corporation, provides energy comparable to a traditional mechanical watch, but with the added benefit of a highly precise electronic regulator that never requires a battery change. This technology is exclusive to Seiko Watch Corporation's timepieces.
